The claim
“Archaeologists found edible honey in ancient Egyptian tombs”
Myth
This 'fact' is all over the internet, but no edible honey has been found in Egyptian tombs.
What's really going on
Honey keeps for a very long time when kept dry, but the famous tomb story doesn't hold up. In every claimed case, the find turned out to be another substance or only chemical traces.
The receipts
“(However, no edible honey has been found in Egyptian tombs; all such cases have been proven to be other substances or only chemical traces.)”
“The key to preservation is limiting access to humidity.”
